In the News: EV Politics CEO Mike Murphy Calls on California to Counter Trump’s EV Rollback

In his new Los Angeles Times op-ed, EV Politics CEO Mike Murphy doesn’t mince words: “When he signed his budget bill into law on July 4, President Trump dealt a heavy blow to America’s electric vehicle industry, ending most federal support for U.S. electric vehicle manufacturing and hobbling automakers’ $100-billion effort to catch up with China, the world’s new automotive manufacturing superpower.“
On July 4, Trump signed a budget that slashed federal support for EVs, undercutting U.S. automakers’ $100 billion bet on electrification just as China dominates global markets. “If we lose this race, we don’t have a future Ford,” Ford CEO Jim Farley recently warned.
California, Murphy argues, has the market power and leadership to keep the United States in the game. He lays out three priorities for Sacramento:
- Save consumer credits.
- Fix the multifamily charging problem.
- Fast-track fast-charging permits.
As Murphy puts it:
“Gov. Gavin Newsom, a longtime EV driver, and the state Legislature can fill the void left by Washington, championing EV manufacturing jobs and keeping California and the nation competitive in the race to electrify transportation.”
