EVs and the Trump Transition
Big scoop from Reuters today on Trump Admin 2.0 plans for EVs. In short:
- Trump plans to cut EV support, impose tariffs on battery materials
- Proposals aim to boost U.S. production, redirect funds to national defense
- Transition team suggests rolling back emissions standards, blocking California’s stricter rules
Though we applaud the battery focus, there are a lot of troubling ideas here on the demand side.
While the Trump administration can likely eliminate the $7500 lease credit soon after taking office on January 20, the purchase credit and the other IRA programs will require Congressional action, and with a narrow 2 vote GOP advantage in the House, that promises to be a complicated process. We’ll be out there defending vital EV subsidies and infrastructure spending — much of which is in Republican states and Congressional districts.
