A Political X-Ray of Elon Musk
We’ve been busy here at the American EV Jobs Alliance! Right after the election we conducted, with our pals at Hill Research Consultants, a new national poll on the attitudes voters/consumers have about EVs. Unlike other market research in the automotive sector, we look at the battle to depoliticize EVs like a political campaign, something we’ve done a lot of.
We’ll have a lot more data and insights from that work up here soon, but in the meantime today we are releasing a Special Report: The Curious Case of Elon Musk, MAGA and Electric Vehicles.
This new polling has mixed news for Tesla leader and Donald Trump confidant Elon Musk. The scientific poll of 600 registered voters, taken shortly after the November elections, shows Musk with surging support among Republicans but massively unpopular with Democrats.
Our poll also showed Musk with a significant “gender gap” – Elon is far more popular with men than with women. He’s also rated far higher by gasoline car and pick-up truck drivers than by EV drivers. And Elon is also now poorly rated by voters who think climate change is a serious problem.
Yup, he’s done it. Over the last year Elon has done an amazing triple super axel mega-MAGA flip from EV Deity to Republican base Hero!
I cannot think of anybody else who has pulled that off! But at what cost to Tesla?
We wanted to know why, so our poll also compared favorable ratings of traditional car brands like Ford and Toyota with Tesla, finding more political polarization. And now, those brands are actually more popular with likely future EV buyers than Tesla is!
We think you will find this new report interesting.
